Oliphant

In the 12th century French epic, Song of Roland, Oliphant is the name of Roland's horn. When ambushed at the battle of Roncevaux, Oliver advises Roland to blow the horn and alert the rest of Charlemagne's army about the attack. Roland decides not to, and the situation quickly escalates until nearly everyone is killed. Although it is too late to save his men, Roland blows the horn before he expires so that Charlemagne will know what happened and avenge him and his men.
