In the English poem, Alliterative Morte Arthure, Clarent is the ceremonial "Sword of Peace" belonging to King Arthur. It is the counterpart to Excalibur, the sword of war. Clarent was stolen by Mordred, who later dealt Arthur a mortal wound with it.
