In the 12th century German work Wolfdietrich, Beierlant is the sword of Treferis, a saracen warrior under the command of King Merzian. The Christian Wolfdietrich had just recently killed several warriors including Delfian, the king's nephew. Treferis drew his sword against Wolfdietrich to avenge the loss, but is killed.
