In Norse mythology, Gungnir is the spear of Odin crafted by the a group of dwarves named the Sons of Ivaldi. They also forged Freyr's ship Skidbladnir ("Wooden-bladed"), and the golden hair of Sif. The spear never misses its target.
Loki made a bet with the dwarf Brokk that he and his brother Eitri (Sindri) could not surpass the quality of the Sons of Ivaldi. In response, the two dwarves created Freyr's boar Gullinbursti, Odin's arm ring Draupnir, and Thor's hammer Mjollnir. The contest was judged by the gods who decided in Brokk's favor.
