Guisarme
Time Period: 11th-14th century
Location: Europe
Common construction: Wooden haft with iron or steel head

The guisarme is actually a pruning hook placed on a long pole and used to dismount horsemen. While it excelled in that regard, the lack of a spear point made it an inferior polearm. The guisarme itself fell out of favor as polearms gained in popularity during the 14th century, but the idea of the hook for dismounting knights can been seen in other weapons such as the glaive-guisarme, bill hook (bill guisarme), and guisarme-voulge.
