Time Period: 15th-16th century
Location: Italy
Common Construction: Steel

Cinquedea means "five fingers" and the original dagger that it referred to was five fingers long. However, the term was mistakenly applied to a blade of varying length that is roughly five fingers wide at the base. This inaccuracy stuck and now the cinquedea refers to the weapon pictured.

Whether the blade is classified as a dagger or a short sword can only be determined on a case by case basis, the term cinquedea does not refer to either specifically. Its popularity was restricted to Italy and may have been known throughout the rest of Europe as the anelace or anlace.

I totally agree with lonvig to talk about a book part of the way through! There's just a certain emotional element attached to that moment that you don't have at the end!Happy Friday! (Old follower stopping by for FF) opeyvgzfuq [link=]ffivxgrcan[/link]
